Slavery was all Hajamma knew.
She was engaged in ritualized sex work from a young age. Gave birth to children without last names or any certainty of who their fathers were — boys and girls no school would welcome because of what she did.
And Hajamma expected to be trapped in this cycle of poverty and shame forever. Assumed her daughters would be forced to follow in her footsteps, as almost always happens. Believed they, too, would pass on this heartbreak to their children — a cycle that would never end.

Her life and the lives of her children are turning out much different than expected, to the glory of God!
With a little bit of help from DFN, Hajamma broke free from ritualized sex work and began a new life as a freedom fighter for other women and children in similar circumstances. And she raised her children — including a daughter, named Samaya — with dignity and honor, fighting for them to receive an education.
Samaya loved school so much she kept going after graduation — attending college and earning a nursing certificate.
Today? Samaya leads a virtual clinic, providing healthcare and compassion in very remote and poor villages where ritualized sex work and child marriages are prevalent. She also teaches a paramedical course for girls in the villages, offering them a path to freedom and opportunity.
Hajamma couldn’t be more proud of her daughter — she never dreamed she would have such an opportunity!
